Transportation is now the largest source of air pollution in Minnesota. The Minnesota clean car standards proposed by Governor Walz and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) are our best weapon to fight climate change. The new standards will put safeguards in place to protect our clean air and water and our health, increase consumer vehicle choices, save Minnesotans money, and help grow our economy. Current estimates predict that by implementing these standards alone, we will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2 million tons by 2030.
Yet instead of tackling pressing issues like the climate crisis (not to mention the COVID-19 pandemic, economic uncertainty, and calls for racial justice), Minnesota Republicans are choosing to spend their time on partisan games and intimidating public servants appointed by the Governor, like MPCA Commissioner Laura Bishop who protects our air, water, and environment.
That’s why we are launching a petition to:
- Tell Republicans to let Commissioner Bishop do her job to safeguard our clean air and water and our communities
- Tell Governor Walz we need clean cars standards on the road and driving forward
